With Rey del surf EP, Motel 3 has created a very much in-your-face EP. This debut 7″EP is a statement of principles showing their potential for future releases. Three songs in which they take a stand a 50’s rock fans using guitars, dense reverbs and dreamy passages. However, there’s more to it than that, the music is also indebted to distortion and obscurity. Because the sound of Motel 3 ‘s form and content though inspired by these sources, doesn’t remain stuck in revivalism. On the contrary, it goes on in search of an identity which melts into harmonies, melodies and imagination. They prove all this by this first reference, released by Clifford Records where they display their passion for vintage guitars, slides and music from bands like The Ventures, The Shadows, Galaxie 500 or Yo La Tengo. The result is a collection of songs with a remarkable visual content.
